Class 4 - A snapshot of school life in Year 4 and 5
Miss Hughes is the class teacher responsible for Class Four, while Mrs Jenkinson works alongside as the teaching assistant supporting the class. Physical education (PE) lessons take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, providing students with opportunities for physical and recreational activities. Additionally, Book Club sessions are held during lunchtime every Tuesday, promoting a love for reading and fostering a nurturing learning environment.
This term, class 4 is engaging in an in-depth exploration of the various biomes found on our planet. Through our studies, we have gained a comprehensive understanding of the diverse array of climates that exist and have examined how these climates vary in relation to their proximity to the equator.
In order to further enhance our learning experience, we have integrated our art and design curriculum with this topic. This initiative has provided students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of biomes by creating physical representations of different biomes.
By doing this, we have effectively reinforced the concepts and knowledge we have acquired. Through the creative process, students have been able to visually and practically engage with the subject matter, solidifying their understanding on a deeper level.
In Class 4, children will be provided with two books, one for the classroom and one to take home, which they can choose for themselves. We encourage you to refer to our carefully curated list of recommended reading materials that will surely inspire them.
In our educational setting, we place great importance on nurturing and expressing our faith. We do so by engaging in daily collective worship within our classroom and by actively participating in weekly mass.
PE days in Class 4 are Wednesday and Thursday. We are currently exploring dance with Mrs Sharp, while on Thursdays students attend Rotherham Leisure Centre to take part in swimming lessons.
Homework is sent out every Wednesday. Homework consists of weekly spellings and maths homework, which is set on MyMaths. Classs 4 also have a topic grid of homework challenges to choose from.
Year 4 sees students take part in the statuatory times tables assessment this summer. The children are given time daily to practice their times tables, however to ensure fluency, we also encourage practicing at home on TT Rockstars.
At St Gerard's we celebrate science and encourage a love of STEM by hosting STEM days for our pupils. This term we have been visited by AMRC who have delivered an amazing lesson for class 4 children.
